The Back Story of Wounded Wings
I needed to write this book for many reasons. First, I was both victim and witness to my brother Gilbert’s abuse. Second, the abuse was generational. Our relative likely abused all his children, but we know for certain he began abusing our mother when she was only three—just as Gilbert’s abuse had begun. Third, some extended family members believed Gilbert was homosexual by choice, but in truth, he was groomed for a decade. I wanted the true story told. Fourth, I know that countless children everywhere suffer abuse in one way or another. I hoped Gilbert’s story would serve as a cautionary tale—an example of how not to raise a child, and a reminder of the soul-crushing damage that secrecy can inflict. Also, I included information about predator behavior, helpful resources, and warning signs in the hope that they might prevent the abuse of another child. Finally, the last chapter gives insight into Gilbert’s thinking and behavior through a professional handwriting analysis.
